Fantastical 1.2: Going global

Fantastical 1.2 is now available, providing complete localizations for French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Not only is the UI localized, Fantastical understands these languages, automatically detecting the language you’re using regardless of your Mac’s language setting!

Since the parsing engine needed to be translated for each language, localizing Fantastical was a great deal of work. However, we’re still considering other languages in the future depending on demand. If you’d like your language supported, please contact us and let us know.

Version 1.2 also includes better repeating event recognition, so you can now enter events such as “Soccer practice every Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm” or “Lunch every Tuesday until 2/5.” There are also UI improvements, including showing event end times and dimming out today’s past events.

With 1.2 out the door, we’re shifting our focus to making some internal improvements to Fantastical. Part of these improvements will go towards supporting for reminders, along with a number of other features. We’ll be sharing development progress and sneak peeks here when the time comes.

Don’t forget: we’ll be at Macworld/iWorld 2012 this week. Come say hello to us at booth #228 in the OS X Zone!

  1. Thanks for the update + summary.

PS: The German translation of the Changelog in the AppStore is horrible :) Very hard to read.

  2. I’ve seen far worse German “translations”.
Thanks for finally adding German and other languages to it, you’ve got at least one more customer now. And I bet more were just waiting for this day!

  3. I just upgraded to the latest version on the Mac app stare and now it crashes when I start up the app. Deleted and redownloaded and it still crashes

  4. The translations are cool I guess but one of the main reasons I purchased Fantastical in November was your October blog post stating that support for iPhone Reminders would be included in the next upgrade (with the translations, which this one is). Now you say Reminder support will come in the next upgrade. Frustrating.

  5. I was only talking about the _changelog_ translations. Not the ones in the App itself. They German Changelog was obviously done by a robot. And yes, there’s worse. But I believe it’s still a valid user feedback.

  6. Hi guys, sorry for the “horrible” change log text. Flexibits just fixed it.

  7. I am also experiencing a crash on launch of Fantastical since upgrading to 1.2.

  8. I am also experiencing a crash on startup on 10.7.2 even after completely removing and re-installing.

@Marc: Thanks for the heads up on the change log typos. Sorry, but it was not done by a robot, but rather an actual German. :) As Andreas said, the typos been corrected.

@Obsydia: We’re really sorry you’re frustrated. We decided to release this update with localizations, better repeating events, and the UI improvements so users who wanted those features wouldn’t have to wait as long. Reminders is definitely our top priority and we’ll update our blog when we have relevant information. Thanks for understanding.

@jai, @Josh, @Adam: We’re looking into this crash right now. If you want to contact us via our support page, we can try to gather more information from you.

  11. Crashes at any given chance on a Macbook Pro with Lion + all updates.

  12. Michael (Flexibits)

@Steen: I’ve replied to your email. Please send us the crash logs so we can look into this further.

  13. sure! you have all info now!

  14. Fantastical 1.2 crashes on 10.6.8.

So i guess the crash problem not associated with Lion, but Snow Leopard too. Same as @jai and @adam did, I also fresh installed the app from app store and it still crashes.

    cheers

@Long Tran: Good news! We’ve found the cause of this crash and we plan to resubmit an update to the Mac App Store in the next day or so. We’ll update the download on our site as soon as we submit, so you’ll be able to grab the update without waiting.

  17. Sweeeet!! thanks a lot

    I cant wait XD

  18. @Michael: I apologize. I suspected the texts were translated via robot (it’s *very* common in the AppStore is quite annoying for non-english users). It wasn’t my intention to mock the translator. typos do happen indeed.

    Cheers!

Update on the launch crash: 1.2.1 resolves the crash and is now available directly from our site and the Mac App Store.

@Marc: No worries. We spent *a lot* of time on localizing Fantastical (especially the parsing engine), so we went out of our way to make sure we didn’t use robots. We hope you find the localizations are high quality and enjoy them.
